Jefferson Highway Links

There are several very good websites featuring local knowledge about the Jefferson Highway as well as historical societies and museums with archives on this fascinating history. I will be putting links to these groups as I find good ones so that you can learn as much as you can about this subject.

  • Oklahoma is 100 years old  and a centennial project marking parts of the old Jefferson Highway with new signage has been undertaken  www.oklahomacentennial.com/Projects.php. We are tracking down more info on that project and will let you know what we find. Thank you Amy Weaver!

  • A Mr. Lyell Henry of the Lincoln Highway Association drove the Iowa section of the old Jefferson Highway in 2000 and posted his story in their newsletter.   • Menahga is a small town in Minnesota that was visited by the Palm to Pine motorcade from New Orleans to Winnipeg in 1919 and they have kept that occasion alive by calling their town "The Gateway to the Pines". http://www.menahga.com/History.aspx

  • Caddo, Oklahoma was on the Palm to Pine Highway and a local account of the 1919 "Sociability Run" was sent to us by Mary Maurer, secretary, The Town Restoration Association of Caddo.

  • The Jefferson Parish Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the legacy of their area. The longest piece of the Jefferson Highway that is still called by that name runs through Jefferson Parish to the boundary with New Orleans.
